Teaming up with Fairview Dental Clinic is the best way to get the whitening results you want. We care about your oral health and can make recommendations that will allow you to get the best results in a time frame that works for you. At Fairview Dental we can also help you understand how the whitening process works, monitor your progress, and treat any sensitivity issues that may arise.

Tooth whitening is a chemical process. The active ingredient in the whitening gel is carbamide peroxide. It can only be prescribed by your Dentist as per EU regulations. Other products on the market are not licensed.

The peroxide element of the gel breaks down into tiny molecules and it is these molecules that in turn break down the molecules that cause tooth discolouration. This allows the internal colour of the tooth to be lightened.

Before embarking on whitening your teeth it is essential to have a dental examination. This is to ensure that the process will be suitable for you. Existing fillings and crowns cannot be brightened by this process. Your Dentist will discuss this with you in advance.

Tooth whitening results are very stable. Here at Fairview Dental Clinic we will record your pre- operative shade and end shade. At your subsequent check-up appointments your Dentist will checked the shade of your teeth and if necessary will recommend a top up.

Enamel, dentine, fillings, crowns or veneers are not harmed during the process.

Clinical studies confirm that the presence of fluoride and potassium nitrate in the whitening product helps to reduce cavities and minimise sensitivity. However, sensitivity does occur but it can be managed during the whitening process. At your appointment your Dentist will explain the reasons for this and ways to treat it. It may occur during the process, however once the process is finished the sensitivity will stop.

The best and recommended whitening system is one that is gradual in nature. At Fairview Dental Clinic we recommend and use Opalescence, the leader in whitening. It contains a patented Potassium Fluoride formula.
